Etg alcohol test for the detection of Ethyl Glucuronide in human urine.
For medical and professional in vitro diagnostic use only. The rapid
test for Ethyl Glucuronide (ETG) (Urine) is a rapid chromatographic
alcohol immunoassay for the qualitative detection of Ethyl Glucuronide
in human urine. The Ethyl Glucuronide identified by the test includes,
but is not limited to the metabolites of Ethanol. Ethyl Glucuronide
(ETG) is a metabolite of ethyl alcohol that is formed in the body by
glucuronidation following exposure to ethanol, such as in the
consumption of alcoholic beverages. It is used as a biomarker to test
ethanol use and monitor alcohol withdrawal in situations where drinking
is prohibited, such as in the military, in professional monitoring
programs (health professionals, lawyers, aircraft pilots recovering from
addictions), in schools, in liver transplant clinics or in recovering
alcoholic patients. ETG can be measured in the urine up to about 80
hours after ingestion of ethanol. ETG is a more accurate indicator of
recent exposure to alcohol than measuring ethanol itself. Ethyl
glucuronide (ETG) is a metabolite of ethyl alcohol that is formed in the
body through glucuronidation following exposure to ethanol, such as
after drinking alcoholic beverages. It is used as a biomarker to test
ethanol use and to monitor alcohol withdrawal in situations where
drinking is prohibited, such as in the military, in professional
monitoring programs (healthcare professionals, lawyers, airline pilots
in addiction recovery), in schools, following liver transplantation or
in the recovery of alcohol-dependent patients. ETG can be measured in
urine with traditional laboratory methods (GC/MS or LC/MS) up to about
80 hours after ethanol intake (this data is highly dependent on the
amount of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consumed). ETG is a more
accurate indicator of recent exposure to alcohol than measuring the
presence of ethanol itself. The rapid test for Ethyl Glucuronide (Urine)
is a rapid test that can be performed without the use of instruments.
The test uses a monoclonal antibody to selectively detect high levels of
ethyl glucuronide in human urine. The rapid test for Ethyl Glucuronide
(Urine) gives a positive result when the Ethyl Glucuronide in the urine
exceeds 500 ng/ml. The Ethyl Glucuronide Rapid Test Cassette (Urine) is
an immunoassay based on the principle of competitive binding. Drugs that
may be present in the urine sample compete against the drug conjugate
for binding sites on the antibody. During the test, a urine sample
migrates upwards by capillary action. Ethyl Glucuronide, if present in
the urine sample below 500 ng/mL, will not saturate the binding sites of
the antibody-coated particles on the test instrumentation. The antibody
coated particles will then be captured by the immobilized Ethyl
Glucuronide conjugate and a visible colored line will appear in the test
area. The colored line in the test area will not form if the ethyl
glucuronide level exceeds 500 ng/mL because it will saturate all binding
sites of the anti-ethyl glucuronide antibodies. A drug-positive urine
specimen will not produce a colored line in the test zone, while a
drug-negative urine specimen or a specimen with a drug concentration
below the cut-off level will generate a colored line in the test zone.
As a procedural control, a colored line will always appear in the
control zone to indicate that the correct volume of sample has been used
and that the membrane has been soaked
