The rapid test for Rotavirus (Feces) is a rapid immunochromatographic
test for the qualitative detection of rotavirus in human stool samples
to assist in the diagnosis of rotavirus infection. Rotavirus is the
agent most commonly responsible for acute gastroenteritis, especially in
young children. Its discovery in 1973 and the association with
childhood gastroenteritis represented an important step forward in the
study of gastroenteritis not caused by acute bacterial infection.
Rotavirus is transmitted via the fecal-oral route with an incubation
period of 1-3 days. Although the samples collected between the second
and fifth day of illness are ideal for detecting the antigen, the
rotavirus can still be detected even if the diarrhea persists. Rotavirus
gastroenteritis is a cause of mortality among at-risk populations such
as children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients. Rotavirus is

as children, the elderly and immunocompromised patients. In temperate
climates, rotavirus infections mostly occur during the winter months.
Epidemics and endemics affecting hundreds of people have been
highlighted. Up to 50% of the analyzed samples from hospitalized
children with acute enteritis were found to be positive for rotavirus.
Viruses multiply in the cell nucleus and tend to become a specific host
species producing a characteristic cytopathic effect (CPE). Since
rotavirus is extremely difficult to cultivate, it is rare to use virus
isolation to diagnose an infection. Instead, a number of techniques have
been developed to detect rotavirus in stool. The rapid test for
Rotavirus (Feces) is a rapid immunochromatographic test for the
qualitative detection of rotavirus in human stool samples and provides
results in 10 minutes. The test uses an antibody specific to rotavirus
to selectively detect it in human stool samples. The rapid test for
Rotavirus (Feces) is a qualitative, lateral scrolling immunoassay for
the qualitative detection of rotavirus in human stool samples. In this
test the membrane is pre-coated with anti-rotavirus antibody in the test
line area. During the test, the sample reacts with the particle coated
with anti-rotavirus antibody. The compound migrates upwards on the
membrane chromatographically by capillary action reacting with the
anti-rotavirus antibody on the membrane and generates a colored line in
the test line area. The presence of this colored line indicates a
positive result, while its absence indicates a negative result. As a
procedural control, a colored line always appears in the control line
region, indicating that the correct volume of sample has been used and
that the membrane has been soaked.
